My links are gone!

Having spent much time collecting, searching and swapping links, these links are being removed one by one either by the search engines or the sites I placed links with.

This is worrying and irritating as I never link with suspect sites or anything dodgy. Erm, I had about 1000 links or so and got these by swapping, but now these are reduced to about 350, and don't really know what to do about this, but I guess nothing can be done except maybe remove the links of the sites I swapped with.

I hate it when site owners do this grrrrr.

Is there anyway of guarding from this in the future,as I now face rebuilding what I've lost, and don't fancy reliving this nightmare.

If you mean: it dosen't show up in google link: you may try Yahoo site explorer where it might still appear.

The process of building bacllinks for our websites really sucks the time.

To check the exact backlinks in S.E you can use Yahoo site explorer as JohnRoy mentioned. as google gives importance only to aged links, it will take 4 to 6 months to appear in google backlinks search. Also u can use backlink checking tools which are available for free to find status od yourexisting links in your link partner websites.

If your link partners are reasons for the reduction of your backlnks from 1000 to 350. I would recommend to prepare a backlink checking process using a free tool. YOu can run it twice a month to find the partner who have removed your link and remain them to readd your link. This what i do to keep my backlinks up.
