We're in the midst of link building and noticed that one of the pages that was rising quickly is now going backwards.

How many links [ using the same link text ] within what space of time is the Google threshold of tolerance for natural linking?

Give some thought to the term "natural."

If you were not actively seeking links, how often would another site link to yours? Once a day? Once a week?

Whitey, do the math on the top 5 sites in your niche. Divide how long they have been online by the number of links and stay within that threshold. Might be 3 links a week tops, might be 3000, look around your serps for the answer and test.

Beyond hand-review Google have not many other ways to detect too faster link building. This assunmes the places you are linking from are different, varied and your anchor text 'natural'.

Hope that helps.

What are the symptoms of rapid links building?

Is a results drop one of those symptoms?

I have one site with 2.4 million backlinks that were added in the 4 months. There is no speed unless you are in the beginning stages to gain trust. It is really binary.

Trusted domain, zillions of links and nice serps.
New domain, zillions of links and nothing.

Hope that cleared that one up for you.

interesting thread

I was thinking that a new domain is likely to get sandboxed anyway so was thinking why not get details of the site out to as many places as possible and try and secure as many links to it and as much traffic to it outside of google whilst you are waiting and go from there.

Why hold back?, sites will link to you if your sites any good.

I think trying to second guess how google views a site getting links to fast or slow is a fools game

Any tip on how this was achieved?

No such thing as too many or too fast.

Some human being just might click on one of of those links.

Get links from relevant and quality sites, use ethical ways
every thing will be right.

I feel one thing is wrong with you. That is "using the same link text”. I would suggest you to use different combinations of your targeted keywords as your Link Text.
