High PR LINK advice

Our site has a PR of 6 and currently ranks around 8 (widget) and 12 (widgets) for 2 of the most competetive keywords.

Both of these show up in google with a link to www.site.com - not www.site.com/widget(s).html

Now my question is, with a new inbound link (only 1) from a PR9, we would like to get 'widgets' pulled up and would have this as our text link. Should we direct the link to www.site.com or www.site.com/widgets.html

What would benefit us more and how much do you think a PR9 would help our PR6?

It is hard to say, but in your situation I would request a link to www.site.com/widgets.html.
In this case widgets.html receives a certain fraction of PR9, and is able to transfer a larger portion of its own PR back to the index page of your site than vice versa, since (probably) it has fewer outbound links than the frontpage. Thus your two most important pages (index and widget.html) would end up having more PR.
At least this is how I understand the PR distributuon.

Ok, I'm going to be Captain Obvious for a moment... where does it make sense for a user to land? The main page or the widgets page?

Capt. Obvious - either page would make sense, as this widget is prominent on the home page, so a sale could be made easily from either (and if they are going to buy, it really won't matter which of these two pages they land on). Most people will want to know the features before ordering, which we have highlights on the front, with a button to get more info or order.

Only reason I question the placement is that we rank pretty high (VERY competetive product) and google points the results to our home page alreade, so do we keep building what google is ranking us for to get higher (we float between 1st and second page with the plural form of this keyword), or do we point it right to the page itself and hope for a boost that way?
