Internal Backlinks

Similar pages are "linkwise" treated differently by google

My website counts about 200 pages.
I have added the exact same internal links in all of these pages, in order to gain internal backward links.

eg.

<a href="page.asp">Internal Page</a>

I have added this link to all pages.

The site has been around for about two years, and has good PR.

Still, the backward links of page "page.asp" are only 20 out of 200. My question is why does it count links only from specific pages?

A great number of pages in my site get first page rankings, so i would definately not say that it is blacklisted by google.

Is it a random function the way that google indexes the links, or is it something i am not doing right?

I am just thinking that it is a pity that i have so many links going wasted.

Any suuggestions are welcome.

Any thoughts on why google counts backlinks selectively from only few pages..?

zaneta, over the past few months, Google has undergone the largest change in how it ranks since it first broke onto the scene. In short, it's grown extremely stingy with assigning PageRank and tied to this, excrutiatingly discriminating in counting links back. Google is taking it to the next level and is rewarding sites that are well optimized with a large number of pages. The currency has changed and size does matter. Every good website links to the homepage from every other page, so the linking strategy you describe is well known to Google. They are never going to give you "credit" for these links until your PR is up way high.

The thing is that the site's PR has been 5 for quite a long time.
Also, in another website, which consists of about 2500 pages, all of them linking to the main page, i recently realized that the internal links that were in deed indexed by google were only 33!

My anchor text is fine, relevant, not too many words, not too few words.

Is there a special programming technique that needs to be followed in order for google to index the internal links?

Some basic principles over internal linking perhaps?
