Hi All just wanting to know if anyone knows wether its an advantage to purchase a link back from a PR5,6 or above?

yes - Short answer... links play a large role in rankings.

The better the site linking to yours, the more impact it will have on rankings.

High PR isn't always an indicator of what you're going to get out of the deal. But I had a client with a new site that needed quick inclusion in Google and the best possible ranking asap.

I purchased a one month text link on a PR8 site for $100, the client was in Google in a matter of days and was already ranking exceptionally well on MSN.com for their target keywords in just a few weeks. So in my opinion, it was worth it.
