Software programs for driving traffic

Guess this is as good a place to start as anywhere (not sure which 'subject' to post under)I find the conversations here to be very helpful and insightful, so I just signed up and hope to participate.

I have an ecommerse site that I just redid after 2 years of doing nothing. Did most of my business through direct sales. But I'm back and ready to concentrate 110% to my online sales. One of the problems I am going to have is building traffic due to the fact that I only have 3 products I make and sell. Therefore, I think having as many affiliates as possible is the way to go.

The first question I have is... what about these link development software programs to generate email lists for linking partners and finding affiliates? There are 2 that I looked at (Arlis and LinkCapture) and I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with them or others. It just seem like a reasonable way to propose exchanging links or requesting someone becoming my affiliate.

The other thing I have looked at is the opt/in email marketing companies. Seems pretty expensive for my setup and can't see a very good return.

Any thoughts?

I use Arelis for screening potential link partners and automating the process of building the link directory. If you are extremely selective about building your list of potential link partners, you can be successful. If you let it run automatically, you are just asking for problems.
