I regularly add links on my site to various web sources of interest to my visitors. Over the past few years I occasionally come across some broken links. But I have hundreds of pages of articles plus forum pages and it's hard to keep a track.

Are there any good automated tools out there to check broken external links (I'm pretty sure that my sidtewide links are OK and Google's webmaster tools will spot most of them anyway).

I'm also somewhat cautious about some of these link checkers in case any of them 'click through' the adsense on my site. Is it safe to use these tools?

Thanks

OK, after years of lurking, I'm going to start contributing.

I use Xenu. It is fast and free. I think you can tell it not to follow certain links (adsense.google.com...etc.).

You could try Total Validator. It is a Java program so I think it will run on a Mac.
