hi everyone
I am preparing a report that is covering the average cost of text links (no flaming about the good or bad about buying links . . .)

any averages?
or example pricing - what the market is paying today?

>>>what the market is paying today?

I think it's totally industry dependent. When a conversion makes you 200 dollars vs 40 dollars, the traffic is worth more. In addition, the targeting, placement, pageviews of the site you're buying on, direct link vs. redirect type link, number of outbound links/advertisers also featured on the site... all play a part for me anyway - when deciding the price I'm willing to pay, or sell, a link for.

I'm of the same opinion as sugarrae, there are enough variables in what really determines the value of a link beyond just the pr that everyone talks about, that it simply isn't practical to have a "basic" guide covering the cost of links. I've paid several hundred dollars for a link on a relevant page with only 10 links on the page, 3 external links and 7 internal links. On the other hand I might not pay more than $20 for a link on a page with the same pr as the first example and the same number of links, except 7 external and 3 internal. That's just scratching the surface of what can determine the value of a link. So many variables...
