How long does it take for backlinks to show up in google?

For example i have a newly hosted website as from today and i want to start my link building campaign tonight!

But how long am i looking at untill i see the results through google?

Through Google? Your new baby should hit kindergarden around the same time. ;-)

Use Yahoo and MSN to check for links and you'll see them in 24-36 hours most times. Just because Google doesn't show them in a link command in no way means they don't know about them.
