As a manufacturer, I have successfully gotten my website listed in various manufacturing directories that provide backlinks to my site. I've waited for several months for the SE's to find these new links. However, none of them seem to be showing up when I check for incoming links on Y! and G. Do I need to physically submit the directory page showing my link in order for SE's to count it?

Please advise.

1st, forget about Google, links have not been accurate there ever.

Yahoo and MSN are both pretty good about finding links, the question is;

Are the links clean?

In this day and age where the SE's use links to build their indexes and rank sites, link hiding has become a sport and an art form.

Look at a page your link is on, is that page indexed? Is the nofollow tag being used? Does it reside in the cgi-bin? Is it blocked by robots.txt? Is the link a redirect? Is it in javascript?

These are all reasons why your link may not be indexed and there are others.
