I was just wondering, how does this "link:www.mywebsite.com" works on Google?
As per my knowledge, it shows all the inbound links for the particular site(in numbers) and it'll show me all the related links of the respective websites.
I encountered a website where in it showed 1 of about 18 links(on Google) in total and just displayed one inbound link.
Google has not mentioned it anywhere on what basis it accepts or rather shows the results when you type in “link:www.mywebsite.com”, As per the backlinks searched on one of the free baclink checker), it showed 20 results as compared to 18 when I searched for the links on Google. However, only one link was displayed on Google.
There can be various factors why Google is not displaying the rest of the links,
1. The Link(website) has not been cached
2. The Link was cached several months back
3. Duplicate IP
4. Not a theme based link
5. Either the website has been penalized or banned
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks and regards
D

[edit reason] Removed URL. No URLs to SEO tools, thanks. [/edit]
I agree with all the other posts here. I don't even bother with G's link check, opting instead to work with Yahoo!
Just out of curiosity, i was wondering to ask the same thing to google via help@google.com.. was amazed to know that they do not respond via email.. at once i was OK with it, cause the reply what they send was asking me to fill up a contact form after which they wud respond me...
NOW, once you click on their support link, it has nothing but answering all your queries..(pretty amateur querries)
That means they do not have other way to contact them.
I just wonder, how could google be so rude?
Thanks and regards

2: Google intentionally randomizes and/or limits it's search and toolbar functions so they can't be used to unravel it's algorithm or used as an SEO tool.
3: The backlink serps only show a random sample of links.
