Am I Doing it Right?

What else is there besides the link exchange?

Without going into to much detail, site reviews are not allowed here and your link will have to be took down by a moderator.

Many people these days are trying to stay away from Link Directories like the one you have. People are trying to get "one way link" from blogs, news, content websites, free directories and so on.

If you insist going down the route you are on then not many people will link back because your link directory does not have any TBPR (yes, i know people are still chasing it).

I would scrap your directory and try and get one way links.

>>>will the links come soon

That may be a problem - links rarely ever simply "come" - even to great sites... most link campaigns require work to get the inbound links of some kind. Maybe try branching off into more than just link exchanges...

Press releases [google.com], linkbait [google.com], one way links [google.com], link buying [google.com] and tons of other great ways to obtain links [webmasterworld.com].

What about buying text links from sites that are related to our site?

heres an idea you may not have thought of.. are there any supporting organizations you can join that are part of the market segment you are in? Many times when you join or sponsor an organization, they will link to your site from their site.
