How much should I charge?

I just received an offer from webmaster willing to purchase link on my home page (PR4, ~6000 daily unique visitor). Since I usually exchange links, I don't have a clue how much this link is worth. How much would you charge?

Go on Adbrite to see how much people are charging or visit one of the many sites that broker these types of links, and you should be able to get a good idea of what to charge.

Pick a number. :-) I got $50/month for an unobtrusive text link on a PR2 sub-page of a PR5 site. It probably depends on whether they're looking for link popularity or traffic.

How do you receive payments from other webmasters? I'm not able to receive payment using PayPal and I was wondering if there is some alternative

Heheh! No, I didn't. They approached me for the link, and I wasn't particularly interested, so I said $50 bucks a month and much to my surprise, they jumped on it. Heck. I should have said $100. This was also the second advertiser wanting the link on that same page and also willing to pay $50 a month. Bizarre, but it all spends.

And, sorry tebrino, but I use PayPal. If you can't use PayPal, can you use Amazon Honor System? I have also received checks by postal mail, but it can be a bit ... interesting getting them cashed sometimes depending upon the country where the check is written. (Different countries have different banking treaties with other countries, so Mexico/US/Canada checks cash pretty well in those countries, and I would imagine Euro-based checks would be okay in Euro countries.)

There's also Western Union. Don't they have something like "BidPay" where you can send Western Union money to people?

And exactly how many other links is acceptable?

I think buying a PR4 link *means* that your link is on a PR4 page.

As many links are acceptable as you can convince people to buy. However, a lot of the link brokers promise no more than 8 on the same page. Also, if the link is relevant, then it's worth more than if it's irrelevant. In other words, if you have a link to a dating guide on a dating site, that's more valuable than a link to a car parts store on a dating site. If the links are not really relevant, a lot of times they won't get as much PR, so there should be at least be some connection or it looks fishy.

As always, any link is worth exactly what you can convince someone to pay, no more, no less.

I have found a site & I am not sure whether I can post the url of that site here, which provide a tool for a link value.

If you could do a search for keyword "link value" in big G, you will find that sites listed within 1st 3 search results.

This tools will help you determine the approximate amount you should be paying (or charging) per month for a text link (ad) from each and every page of the specified website.

It takes into consideration factors such as number of Backlinks, Alexa traffic rank, age of the website, etc.

Your link value also depends on who your visitors are, and what your topic is. Are they wealthy and wondering how to their spend money, or are they poor or too young to buy things online?

Holy frijoles, that thing told me a link on one of my sites was worth almost $300.00 a month.

I think it really depends on what people are buying the link for.

If it is on a page with lots of confirmed traffic, and it is on topic, and the buyer is really buying the link because he thinks he will get traffic, then it might be worth somewhere near what adbrite charges.

But, if the buyer is strictly buying the link for pr (in which case he doesn't really expect to get any traffic from it), then the going rates are $20/month for pr6, $12 for pr5 and whatever you can get for less pr - all assume max 10 outbounds on the page - there are webmaster forums where these get traded at this "wholesale" price level...
