We have a dilema. Should we ditch 2 sites that do well on other search engines [ except Google ].

My suspicion is that Google didn't like our previous interlinking strategy between the sites as well as dupe content - so we delinked the branded sites and changed the content/structures around.

In short we have three domains with a great brand name , as part of a larger linking network of dynamic sites on the same C block, using mod_rewrite that are no longer appearing in the top results on Google [ for about a year ]. Our server is based in the US.

The other non branded foreign language sites are all happily receiving good Google traffic.

The branded sites are:

xyz111.com , xyz111.co.uk , xyz.ca the last 2 being used for picking up local traffic

The sites share about 50% of common content, 45% is fresh content delivered differently on each visit.

The sites that work well all have 100% different content.

Our same C block linking practices are:

A page2 > B page2 over 1000's of pages with varied anchor text.

We have taken steps to make the site URL and template structures different.

Should we ditch the last 2 and preserve .com , perhaps using 301 redirects and consolidate the local results onto the first one? Can we still achieve local results.

You should:

1) Make sure there is no common i.e. "dupe" content.
2) Remove gratuitous crosslinking... a bit of crosslinking between sites that are "on topic" is OK.
3) Make sure your mod_rewrite does not have multiple URLs pointing at the same content.
4) Srcub both sites of any questionable seo such as linking to junk sites.
5) Do a reinclusion form asking Google to remove penalties because you've seen the light.
6) Wait... the wait for reiclusion will be nothing compared to the wait after launching a new domain (which seems to top a year these days).
