I noticed there are a few discussions on this in the past but thought i would revisist it.

What are peoples thoughts on creating articles and submitting to free article sites for the purpose of generating one way links?

I've noticed that some of my competitors have done this and it appears as though the articles have then appeared in other independant sites that have used these articles as subscribed content.

Any experiences or tips?

It varies site by site.

In some cases, it's possibly worth doing. In most cases, the 'publisher' gets a good deal, you get nothing.

The link value is minimal, you've given away your unique content to a site that likely will rank higher than you, even if you survive a duplicate content issue.

In nine cases out of ten (or much more), the originator gets nothing except the doubtful and risky pleasure of joining an article farm - the 2006 version of a link farm.

Do the math!
