I have a question to ask to all of you.

Which is more valuable link, "a link from a article page" or "a link from a links page or resource page"?

I think G likes article page link more and gives more value to those links which are coming from content page or article page.

What you people think? want to know your valuable advice and comment.

I'll take both please.

The article page link for the article readers, and the links page for the folks who didn't read the article or are trying to find the link again.

hi all,
According to me a link is more valuable which is coming from a content page or article page. and most of the search engines likes that and gives more value.

Links page link is now a days does not get much value in the eyes of search engines.

So always try to get a link from content page instead of a link page where so many links are present.

Article page link is the best link in the world.

In my opinion article page links are the best option if I get to choose between whether to take from a links or an relavant content page.

Nowadays SE's are favouring the article page links more and links pages are getting the machete.

links within an article surrounded by relevant text are the best from a SE perspective---if you must pick one only.

The article page link for the article readers, and the links page for the folks who didn't read the article or are trying to find the link again.

That might be the theory, but in practice people don't read the links pages. Links pages are pretty-much only for search engines - somewhere to hide your link exchanges without risking your visitors actually see them.

Unfortunately Link Exchange teams seem to rely upon such pages. I once advertised for a link exchange program which was only to have links exchanged with content pages on sites with no link directory and who do not mention links or link exchange on them. Bids were absolutely crazy high!

A lot of people seem to think that. I dunno, maybe it's true for some people.

Sure, IF you're talking about hidden pages, I wasn't.

I think a link on an easily found links page is well worth having.

If it's a one way inbound, I don't really care.

ken_b,

Sure, some links pages are fine, most aren't. Take a look at the links page - are the sites linked to worth linking to? Are they the cream of the crop on that subject? Has the webmaster got exactly the same title and description as dozens of other sites (i.e. the link is provided for SEO exchange or similar) or has the webmaster written his own title and description to show why he personally thinks the site is worth visiting?

When I say hidden, I am talking about the kind of links pages which are linked from the footer or with a small single-word link far down a menu.

When you say visible I presume you mean the links page is promoted as a site feature, so articles may finish with "to read more about xyz check some of our related links _here_", or there might be some real screen estate dedicated to promoting the "best of the web" guide...

I'll generally take the article link over the linkpage link, but, really, I will happily take whatever that quality website publisher is willing to offer me!
(The low-quality one? Why would I be asking for a link there? ;))

i'd take a link on either kind too.
after all, DMOZ is basically just a links page. and i wouldn't mind getting a link on that.

I've switched to content only links and so far no one has taken me up on it yet. I don't go fishing for links but have linking info on sites that states we are no longer doing 'link page' exchanges only 'content page' exchanges.

Doesn't matter, they put my link in their directory (or say they will) and ask for the same in return even though language on my sites recommends they don't waste their time if unwilling to follow directions.

i agree with artdog. we have been trying to actively search for content links but it is really really difficult.
webmasters are scared people would run away through these links and buy from their competition, while it is not true in 99% of cases. I have links to my strongest competitors on my pages. they have my links on their pages and everything works fine. we all rank well and all sell our products.
