I'm looking at building the LP up for a new site and getting true on theme good links is going to be hard due to the spammy & naff sites within this sector - so I'm considering other partners but I'm trying to find out what makes a relevant link?

Is it that a link only has true value to a site if 100% on theme so if your selling Blue Widgets the link has to be from another Blue Widgets site/page or could a link have any value if from just a widgets site? where widgets would be the main single keyword?

Hope I've explained myself - dam widgets LOL

Don't worry so much about spot on relavance. Just keep things in the general ballpark or you will miss out on some great link opportunities.

There's a simple test that works 100%

Is the proposed link going to be useful for your visitors?

If so, no problem. But if your site is about interstellar travel, try not to convince yourself that a shirt-selling-site is useful "because everyone wears shirts" ;)

Fortunately there is no way for google to tell if a link is useful to your visitors or not(no matter what they say). As with most stuff with SEO, just don't over do it.

There are many sites who throw relevance out the window and who are ranking tops. I used to think relevance was key, and I used to ask the question until finding the competition are all doing what you should not be.
