Linking Agreement

Ever heard of...?

So apparently a big corporation wants to link to my site, and I am quite happy about it. :-) But they send over a "Linking Agreement", and the terms seem quite OK for me. But as this is coming from a Yahoo! mail adress, I get suspicious - is it real? (Well, it could be as big companies usually work with agencies, and these work with freelancers).

Has anyone ever heard of such an agreement, or signed one? Or is it just some dark ploy?

Many thanks for some quick opinions!

I have encountered link agreements before. Usually it is from someone who does not understand how the Internet works (ie an old lawyer with a website). It is possible that the email is legit, but whenever I see a free email account being used I become suspicous. Just be careful not to disclose any useful information in your response, in case it is a bogus email.

This would be a good phishing scam by an email spammer. I am not saying it is that. But it would be smart for an email spammer to email the contacts in the whois with promises of inbound links from big websites in exchange for personal information.

While I've seen link agreements before, most professional web folks will at least send the request from a business domain account like: "bizaccount@bizname.net" and not a free email account.

If I responded, I wouldn't divulge any important info within the email.

Ask for specifics. Better yet, ask if they can respond from a company email address.
