301 redirect for link building

is this an artifical way of building IBL?

I have just bought a domain which I (nicely) find has about 100 IBL's mostly from PR4's and PR5's.

It was an old indie record label, that now exists on myspace, but they have not redirected their old domain - how silly!

Can I get a quick heads up, if I now 301 redirect this domain to my site (on a page that is about music) do I therefore benefit from the IBL's to the domain that I have redirected.

In other words, am I passing both the PR and the IBL's - therefore making my life 100 odd IBL's simpler?

No.You aren't.
301 doesn't pass link benefits.

You sure? I thought redirecting 301 style did forward the PR value.... then I could be wrong.

Yes, you would. You would be best to redirect it to a page about that old indie record label. That way it retains it's theme. You'll probably see some immediate effects and then the trickle down effect over time.

A 301 will past link benefits and it may also pass any other related issues with the previous domain. Keep that in mind. ;)

Wrong, yes it does, and will even pass any detrimental effects including dampening, if that page happened to be filtered or banned for any reason.

of course it does. i tried it a few times and it works like a charm. especially if you redirect to a page with some sites linking to it already

Correct.More accurate to say that IN MY EXPERIENCE IT DIDN'T WORK.
