Different Domain Name for Link Pages

Getting a lot of these lately.

Anyone notice an upswing in link requests where the domain name of their site is different then their link page? I have been getting a lot of these lately. Some are slightly different while others are blatent.

Example would be a request to exchange links...

Their home page - widgetdesign.com
Their link page - widget-design.com/links.html

I have also been getting some that are just totally unrelated to their pages. Such as...

Their home page - widgetdesign.com
Their link page - UpAndComingDirectory.com/MyTopic/MySiteTopic/

I almost laugh when I see this. It seems that these webmasters are submitting my site to a directory then claiming that is where their reciprocal link is.

Well I suppose it takes all kinds.

That's called triangular linking. It's done so that it makes it look like they have a one-way inbound. I'm going to try to find the Google guys today and chat with them about triangular linking.

I had a brief conversation yesterday and catching link spam is something they're hard at work at.

That would be great martinibuster. I have been getting a lot of these requests lately, daily. I don't see how G would be able to crack down on these. From a 3rd party point of view, it just looks like outbounds. What is strange is all the wierd directories my sites have been added to in order for them to try to trade links with me. A lot of these start out as...

"we have already added your site....

Our Link Info:
URL: [widget.com...]
Title: Widget Company
Description: Ya da ya da yada

Your link can be found at...
BigColossalDirectory.com/mysubject/mycompany.html"

So my sites are already there and they want a link back. I hope that can't hurt me in any way.
