Need a reliable Link checker

How do I count my links?

I've been checking mylinks using Yahoo and MSN, and according to the combined total of these engines I have 1000 plus, but I don't know how accurate this is.

Is their a 100% accurate way of checking the number of links to my site. Any sites that offer this service?

I don't believe so, because you would have to spider the entire web. Only the search engines have that capability.

I use SEO Elite to manage and check links it is very good. Else use the link:www.mysite.com check in the SE's , manually, noting google does not show all links anyway ...

Event: " ..according to the combined total of these engines .."

I presume your aren't simply adding the two figures from MSN and Yahoo. There must be tons
of duplication as they both find the same incoming links. Did you mean you averaged them or what?

It could take a week to weed out the duplicates manually. -Larry

Hi Larry,

I was keeping the 2 figures seperate. I'm aware of these duplicates but wondered if there was a service that sorted out the duplicate links and gave a very accurate total is all. I guess these 'programs and tools' only spider the engines and give the same results as the engines anyway.

Strange that noone has decided to tackle this problem before, er develop a tool for collecting and sorting this info or set up a resource site just for ranking sites. I mean we have Alexa and Google, just nothing to count/sort links.....

Using various tools, I fetch unique queries on unique ips from Y and M not G, gives me a pretty good idea minus the rubbish.
