Hi, just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction...

Basically I need to start building up a lot of links to my B2B site but I don't have a budget to do so. I am not keen on anything reciprocal as I don't want a links page on my site.

About a year ago I submitted my site to every free directory I could find but when I do the 'link:domain.com' command in Google there are only a handful of listed links.

Any ideas - How do you generate good, free one-way links?

You may want to read around a bit, as this topic has been addressed numerous times in the threads below. ;-)

Good luck.

I had a look but couldn't find any definite guides. Are there any begginer/guide threads highlighting this?

Look up to where the title of this forum is, where it says Link Development.

Look just above that, there's a link to the Link Dev Library. Lots of good information right there.

Gmorgan;

The first thing you need to realize is that there are no "free" links.

We pay for them one way or another. Some pay with cash, some with reciprocal links, others pay with additional time spent, outstanding content, etc.

If you can't pay cash, and don't want to pay with a reciprocal link, then time is probably going to be your currency.

So ask yourself this... is your time worth more or less than the cash price of a decent link or other ad?

ah, yet another knight stumbles into me humble inn on a quest for the grail...

it reminds me of the noncommital solace given to the knight in search for Eldorado by Edgar Allan Poe

"O'er the moutains
of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride"
The shade replied-
"If you seed for Eldorado!"

How about the Blog Link Strategies? If you compare with Blog Link VS One Way Link from Directory Submission, which one is better?

Gmorgan, only about 1-3% of free directories will actually give links. I tried 4000 in total (petty change compared to Neuron) so the problem is to find useful free directories.

There are now a few lists of good free directories out there. Just confirm that they are active so you have a decent submission-live ratio. Tip: Avoid themed directories unless you match that theme.

There are also a few free lists that also provide a free semi-automatic submissions tool -- they prefill as much of the info as they can, (and even select the page for you based on site theme) and then ask you to confirm it. For $25 they'll even do the submission for you.

After that, yeah, as the other posters have well stated there are no "free" links. Good luck.

I haven't seen anyone mention this. Have you considered exchanging links on content pages? Say you have a site about "blue widgits" and you have some additional sub-pages about red widgets and purple widgits. If you find a site that sells red widgits and happens to have a page with content about blue widgits, ask them about trading links on the content pages. Seems to me that would be more relevant than a links page and would be more valuable.
