Well at this time Google have changed some algos related to Links. Yahoo has also been doing some changes but not as big.

Point of this thread:
To find out whats new in the top three Search Engines. MSN, Yahoo and Google.

I will go first.

I feel that Google has devalued reciprocal links a touch more this algo change. (ok still early but so far this is what i see.) Also too much of the same anchor text seems to be bad.

What is MSN & Yahoo's take on reciprocal links and how do they deal with anchor text? I remember when yahoo didnt like reciprocal links much and as yet I have not done much digging into MSN.

Please post only relative information and give the "me too" posts as rest.

>>>I feel that Google has devalued reciprocal links a touch more this algo change.

Not seeing that on what I watch at first glance - haven't looked heavily yet though.

>>>>Also too much of the same anchor text seems to be bad.

It has been this way in Google for a long, long time now.

>>>when yahoo didnt like reciprocal links much

Never have had a massive "problem" with this. Sites made of recips have almost always done very well in Y, though IMHO, one way links are always better.

As you said, still to early to tell what G has done this last update - we don't even know that it is "complete" yet. I'll be giving it another day or so before taking a serious look.

I run a few High ranking travel sites (three years running) and they ranked first for the keywords using the same anchor text... until now that is.

Ive been asking around some online friends and it does sound like a link algo change as well as a OOP.

I never really SEO'd for MSN & Yahoo as I came first in Google the rest would fall in place but now I will have to do more research into these Search Engines.

>>>I run a few High ranking travel sites

If they are high ranking on Google, there is no doubt that you have a ton of scraper backlinks inbound. While your sought out anchor text may have contained the same two or three keywords, mentions you did not request (be it legit or scraper) probably did not contain the exact phrase you targeted. My guess is that if you ran an in depth analysis on your backlink anchors, you'd find some level of variation, though maybe a smaller percentage (these are older sites you said) than that of the target phrase, but likely still some variation.

>>> a link algo change as well as a OOP

Again, haven't looked in depth, but I also sense some sort of change to the linking portion. Never have believed in the OOP. I definitely think you can trip filters with too much of a good thing, but I don't think it is a mass penalty for all things "over optimization".

>>> in Google the rest would fall in place but now I will have to do more research

Problem now is, what can be good for you in one engine backlink wise can tank you in the others. Proceed with care.

Hmmm, seems this got off topic - sorry MB.

It seems to me that sites which have depended *primarily* on reciprocal links have been hammered in Jagger. Even with varied anchor text. And I know the update isn't finished yet but omens aren't looking too good from here.

What this is telling me is that themed recip link building is likely to continue to work in the future but only if built on top of a good base of established 1-way links.
