Does 'content rich' mean that there is a lot of varied content on the site. I have some requests for links to my site. My site ( sigh) still ranks at 0 on google, and so do some of these sites. The highest one is 6.
Am I right that the links you want are something rated at a 10?
Is it better to trawl the internet to find links that are rated at a 10 on google and hope someone who is so web wise is kind enough to reciprocate?
If you have a content rich site is that why all the sites that want to link seem to have created a link page that goes things beginning with A, with B and so on.
Do those who know about SEO check a sites google ranking before they add it?
I tried one of those get links type places. The people who are wanting links seem to have lovely web sites, whatever their ranking, but all seem to have this a-z link feature. I presume it is ok to do that if you don't just take on indiscriminate links. I am hoping to find some that have relevance to what people
I guess my website would give something in R (religion).
The other thing I have noticed.
I wrote an article and it seems to be in a lot of different places (because I posted it as a free article with a proviso they put in my copyright notice if used and a link to my website). It does seem to be on some religious sites, and yet also on sites where people seem to have just picked up articles a-z. One guy just seemed to have a page that was literally an obvious get him money thing as there was no way unless you actually searched google with a particular keyword you would ever find any article on his site!
Is this all part of search engine optimisation?
Thanks,

Welcome to the SEO World.
Content rich site means the site should have relevant content based on the theme of the site. Proper utilisation of keywords should be there from SEO point of view. Keyword stuffing should not be there. There are number of factors which should be kept in mind while writing the content for the website.
Another important factor is link building.
Links to your site, reciprocal and otherwise. While links from high quality websites are essential to attaining a good Page Rank, any link to your site has the potential to bring in more traffic. Whether it be a PR1 webpage or PR0 webpage, the content should match the theme of your website.
Again there are other several factors should be kept in mind while linking to other webpages.
The key is not to link back to a lower quality website. You're probably asking yourself "How in the world am I supposed to get webmasters to link to me if I don't offer to link back to them?". The answer is simple: Just ask them for a link.

Well, it depends what you mean by quality. If you mean that the content isn't good, or related in some way - for sure. If you mean you should never link to a site with lower PR, than that is just bull. Quality is not synonymous with the toolbar pagerank of a site.
Just get good links, with varying amounts of inbound anchor that contain your keywords and industry words and get them from sites you would find useful yourself as a consumer. If they ask you to link back, and they are a good site, then by all means. Start with this and as you get a feel for it, you can read around here some more and learn other techniques and things to look out for.
My two cents...
