And a 500 pound man could kick a three year old's ass.

That isn't even a comparison of good vs. bad vs. how they do in the serps. Good links are worth more - they're not miracles.

Agreed. Good links are on topic and targeted for starters.

A bunch of unrelated links makes you look like you don't know what you're doing in making a resource - steer clear from any old website link.

Get the ones in your niche! Eg, say you have a dating website, so link it to related stuff to dating.

What else - Ah, Property website - then get related property links like Home Insurance recip links/one ways.

Yes links are important. Especially quality links, however related would be nice but not always necssary.

If you take a look at your competitors, even those outside your industry you will see many of the top ranking sites have a lot of non-related links pointing to them.

Plus links pointing to you there is no way of knowing if you placed those links there or the owner of that site did it. So to say its bad to have a non-related link point to you is silly. Probably won't be as much worth as a related high quality link but a link is still a link. At least at this point it is.

The only things that will get you in trouble is stuff you do on your own particular website/domain. Because it obvious to search engines where the source of the onsite work/came from. You!

Hope that makes sense to you.
