Hi y'all.

i am pretty new in this scene. have set up a site and been sending email requests for link exchange. however, there seems to be some flaw in my approach as i have been getting very bad response to my efforts.

my questions are :
1.how do you find sites that are related and will link back to you? i searched google for related sites (ie via keywords) and from the results shown, i clicked to their sites, and search for any signs of 'add url' or 'link submission'. then, i send them an email. is there any better way to do it?

2.what sites do you want to link to?
let me state an example. lets say you have a site about how to play guitars. you naturally link to other sites about guitars. what about sites that are mainly not that focused on guitars, lets say there's this site 'a' which is a's personal site, and he has a section dedicated to guitars (example www.aaa.com/guitar). should i get link from his site to?

3.what other ways are there to find relevant sites who are willing to link with you?

thank you.

So, it sounds like you want to improve your page ranking by getting other sites to link to you. Thats smart, and as far as Google goes, its probably the best way to increase your ranking. However, there are other factors that google uses to compute your page rank. For example, is your page html valid? Have you tried the W3C validator? Is your file size as small as possible? Have you compressed your images and are you using CSS instead of a million ugly <FONT> and other deprecated tags? Are all of your pages linked together? Have you defined keywords and descriptions?

As far as getting other pages to link to you, you're on your own there buddy. Good Luck.

Well, that's your first problem, right there. You might not want to search in Google for partners, try Yahoo or MSN first. You may find more sites in there that may be willing to trade links with you as the sites in Google aren't as new and fresh as those in Yahoo and MSN.

A lot of the things you ask are not just the ABCs of Link Dev, but the whole alphabet- A-Z. I encourage you to take a look through the Link Dev Library through the past posts. You'll see a lot there that will be useful to you.

The link to the Library is near the top of this page.

After you've done some research feel free to pop in with questions.

Good luck.
