Incoming Link Spike

is this possible?

I just checked my linking with a few websites, all security related. For some reason there has been a spike increase of incoming links. I have gone from 1,500 links to 3,300 links within a day. Most of these seem to be with Hotbot and Yahoo.

Can anyone explain this? Is this going to go back down to normal, or is this because those two sites didn't like my sites because they were new and now perhaps they are out of a possible "sandbox" issue?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can't answer your question Wes, but what I will say is about a week ago one of my sites had 400 IBL's. Today it has 1500.

Someone has found one of my Articles and spammed it to death on hundreds of crappy sites. I can tell they are from the same person by the sites design. There is a link back to my site and fortunately just the domain and no anchor text. That is a god send because if they had used my main KW target as the anchor text that "could" of raised a flag and got that search term penalised for my site, who knows? I'm just speculating that could of been the case.

Is there any pattern to your new IBL's Wes? What kind of sites are they coming from? Are they one way or have you exchanged with them in the past?

wfernley,
Do you rank well on Yahoo.com? If so, it could be a competitor trying to get you booted from Yahoo.

If you have a large sudden increase in backlinks, there is a possibility Yahoo will ban you.

Yeah it is with Yahoo, but it seems most of the links are from my website.

If most of the new links you see in your backlink total are within your own site, then it is likely Yahoo just crawled deeper into your site recently (assuming you didn't create a ton of new pages).

Yeah thats probably what it is. I haven't added many new pages. I try to do one new page a day.

Thanks for the reply :)

Its simple, its all scraper sites, I hope google in the fare fare future clear this, then your linkback will go back to normal.

On Yahoo I went from 3000 links back to 12000 in a month, all scraper sites.

Zeus, if the backlinks are from his internal pages, than it has nothing to do with scraper sites in this instance.
