Hello,
I am near completion of a web site that has a page for Industry Related Links. I have seen these 'information sources' for viewers on other sites. My question is do they help index a web site at all? Or are they just good reading?

Thanks

IMO absolutely not.

Or are they just good reading?

Generally, anything that is useful for your readers may help your site as well.

They may not help a web site get indexed, but they do help in regards to search engines. Especially if you have outbound links to quality websites that are in the same field as yours or a website that is discussing in some way a part of your business. Say a government website that has some pages, which discusses the regulations about the field your business is in.

Outbound links do help in regards to the search engines, since the search engines expect to find outbound links to quality websites for perhaps references or other vital information.

For example if you had a hunting website, it may be good to have a link pointing to a government website that list the rules and regulations on hunting licenses and gun permits for that sate, or what the seasons where for the different animals.

The quality of outbound links does help a website when it comes to optimization.

Thank you. I meant search engines not indexing. So let's say my web site is about cars and I have links to a a dozen or so good sites about cars, then that would help my web site - recriprocal or not?

Thanks

That is correct. It's always good to have a few good outbound links.
