Is there a "going rate" for links from high-PR sites? Not only would I be interested in selling link space on my own sites, but I'm also interested in buying it on others to increase the PR of some of my other sites.
For several years, I've been able to get the sites I've developed onto the first page of the major SE's.
None has ever gone beyond a PR of 4, no matter how many reciprocal or one-way links I establish.
So, I find it amazing that someone could build a PR8 or 9 site. I'm not amazed at all that other sites would pay serious money for links.
I guess the essence of my question is entirely selfish: how in the world do you ever get a site to PR 8 or 9?
An absence of answer is understandable.

I think what it comes down to is quality vs. quantity. I don't have a lot of inbound links, but the ones I do are from high ranking sites such as entrepreneur, CNN, and a few other news outlets that have had articles about me. I don't fully understand how PageRank works and I've never paid for a link before, but I think your site's PageRank may be some kind of 'average' among the sites that link to you? Or maybe it has to do with the relevance of the anchor text to the text in the page? I don't know for sure, maybe someone else can answer that. I've seen guys running sites with hundreds of links that never get above a PR5, and the PR9 site I'm talking about has fewer than 20 that I'm aware of.
