Sorry for the fantastic title, but I really need some help.
I have lurked, read and learned a lot here and have only asked for help one other time, so here goes.
Recently my main website has gone from hardly any IBL's to massive amounts, and I mean massive. Almost overnight!
I used to always show around 2500 IBL's (give or take a few) in all the major SE's, so this must be the true number for my site. Two days ago it was brought to my attention, by a competitor no less, that my IBL's had skyrocketed. This competitor had the ba]]$ to ask my how I did it and offered me a fairly large amount of cash to share my "secret". He directed me to take a look for myself, so I did and I was floored. I had something like 130,000 IBL's from each engine (except Google of course). I checked again yesterday thinking it was a fluke... not only was it not a fluke but I now had 220,000 IBL's showing on each engine. Needless to say I began to worry. Today when I checked there are something like 327,000 IBL's showing from each engine.
I am getting really scared now because I am thinking someone has it out for me and is trying to get my site penalized.
I'm not normally paranoid, really. But this is nuts.
Can anyone help, or shed some light, or begin hypothesizing? Please.
Sincerely,
One Scared Straight Webmaster

[edit reason] remove specifics [/edit]
I have recently joined nothing.
I am my own webmaster, that is why I lurk here so much. It is sort of a hobby for me, I find it all so fascinating!
Yes, there are many, many themed links. I have added them one by one through many years of hard work. I normally have around 2500 IBL's showing in all the SE's except G.
I do EVERYTHING by the book. I have been offered good money for home page banners and politly refused, I only sell homes on my site and that is it. This is why this has me so concerned that someon is trying to sbatoge my efforts.
Again, I am requesting a mod remove the active link in my first post. Thank you!
Get this: I went through as many as I could by hand and actually came to the end and it said repeat search without duplicates omitted so I did. Well there is one link from one page being repeated over and over and over. They spiders must have got hung up on that site. It is a site about blogs where I posted a comment on the software the site offers. Funny how Google's spiders, and MSN's didn't get hung up there.
This has to be the answer, there are pages and pages of this one link showing from the same exact URL.
Okay, mystery solved, no one is trying to sabatoge me. Now, what to do next? Will contacting Yahoo help?
Well, Yahoo will straighten it out. Chances are they got hung up by session ids or some flukey dynamic page loop - in the mean time, let your competitors do some stupid stuff to "catch up" with you, they'll end up banned, and you'll be #1 in the serps. :)
Basically thousands and thousands of pages from basically one or two posts.
If I had a link to someone in one of those posts, they probably saw a huge spike in IBL's too, similar to yours.
