Yesterday doing some link hunting for our new website. I was thinking to focus on webmasters ([e-mail]) more than on general information addresses... ([e-mail]).

The main reason for this is that a webmaster can immediately react by linking the website if he or she feels comfortable with it, while another contactperson who is checking the general mail-account always have to send his or her apprval to a webdesign agency to update the website.

Any one can confirm this? Any stats...?

For many people webmaster@ is so spammed out that many people don't check it anymore- it goes straight to the bin. info@, webmaster@, are common email addresses spammers use. For that reason I never use webmaster@ for any of my domains.

Also, you may be accused of sending Unsolicited Email and be subjected to a complaint to your host provider or domain registrar. Especially if the webmaster is not the decision maker. It's not uncommon for the webmaster to not be the decision maker for the website.

Good point.

On the other hand isn't every link request an 'Unsolicited Email'...? In that case it's almost impossible to send out an e-mail nowadays...

I think a link exchange request is a relevant issue if themed to each others website, it might benefit both sides.

Not if there's an invitation on their links page for link suggestions, with a specific email address or online form to fill out, with instructions on how to format their recip on your website.

Many link pages have clear instructions, including the PR of your page that they want, or even a request to please not email them.

They way I do it, if I'm trying to establish link exchanges with art sites, for example, I'd search Google for something like: art exchange links or art request a link

Because most people willing to exchange links or post links would use the words 'exchange links' or 'request a link' somewhere on their websites. Then I only get results for Art sites that invite you to contact them about a link.

If their site says 'click here to request a link', or 'click here to exchange links', this is NOT concidered spam.
