Are links helpful?

Apart from SERP's?

I currently run 6 websites, and all of them are SEO'd, and all of them have many PR4-PR6's linking in.

Those things combined have helped my SERP's like always, but I see VERY few visitors come from links in comparison to those coming from SE's.

Is this normal?

One of my sites has a GREAT link that is highly targeted, and the guy did it for free since I sell his product, and that link produces about 10% of what MSN does on a monthly basis.

Do you have any great links that provide a significant amount of traffic?

I get quite a lot of click through traffic from sites that are very related. My sites is a free service and info related so perhaps this may be a factor.

I think it has to be said though, you will get to the extent where all your inbound links will have an enormous effect in your search engine rankings. When this happens the search engine traffic will be difficult if not impossible for any one link to keep up with.

All of your IBL's are part of the SEO equation that are helping you get SE traffic. Each link on its own may not bring in much traffic, but the overall effect is what counts.

Thanks Mack...thats the info I was looking for.

hp,

I realize that links are important for SEO, but I want to know if they are important apart from SEO...are links valuable to send traffic to your site?

YES. Each and every link, even if its totally ignored by the search
engines, can drive in a little traffic. Digging thru my access_log files
(kind of a fetish of mine) I find referrals from links I forgot I had.
Not a lot for any one of them, but they do indeed add up.
Bad neighborhoods aside. any site should welcome this part of the mix. -Larry

I am sorry if I misunderstood your question. In my opinion, every link (even if it doesn't drive any traffic at the moment or very little traffic to your site) is valuable. I had a link on a blog last year that never delivered any traffic to my site and then what seemed like overnight, I started to receive a few visitors a day from that blog. Now I know that a few click throughs is nothing, but every new visitor to me is a potential sale.
