I have the option of a link from a Pr7 site, it has only 2 other links to external sites on the page.

Its gonna cost me £100 per month, not bad I think and Im pretty certain I can make this make in sales.

Oh yeah and it bang on topic.

So how will this affect the rank etc of my site? How long before teh PR rubs off on my site?

Dumb questions maybe but I dont quite grasp this concept of PR.

It will depend on what Google thinks of the web site, such as is it an authority site or does it have good link popularity? There is no way to know for sure when the PR will rub off on your web site, but I would guess that it would start soon after they find the link on their web site. You won't see it take affect in the Google toolbar to the next PR update though.

A better measure than 'change in PR' would be measuring 'change in traffic'.
In the unlikely event that you can do just one change at a time, compare stats before and after to see if income is up > $100 pm.

PR means Page Rank, not Site Rank. I take it the other site has
at least one PR-7 page. Is THAT the page which will link to your site?
If so, how many OTHER outgoing links does that same linking page have?
If NOT, what is the PR of the page that will actually link to you,
and of course same question about how many other outgoing links.

I agree that a before-after study with all the numbers is needed. -Larry

PR means Page Rank, not Site Rank.
What are you talking about? No one said anything about Site Rank

I believe that Larry's referring to the title of the thread.

I was gonna follow on from something ( however lightning fast "self modding" made it incomprehensible :{ ) ..

Regarding the value of PR ..take a look at the homepages of the mods and speakers at pubcon ...if PR was all that it was about ..the toolbar would make the presentations void ..

A link from a PR 7 "may" bring you some more traffic ..however a lot of little links from even perso pages ( tell em if they have a site even on a free provider and they buy from you then you'll give em a 'lil discount when they buy the second time ..you just have to write the preffered text that they link with ) that and some on page SEO would get you more IMO..
(said based on a look at your site ..which discretion being the better part etc ..I don't "profile" any of mine ..MB gave one very good reason)

If you are buying links (only) to increase your own Pagerank, you proberly ought to wait about 3 months before you start buying... that is when the next "link snapshot" is likely to be taken, and Pagerank & backlinks are usually updated based on that snapshot about 3 - 4 weeks later*.

J.

* time figures based on my experience on last updates, and the theory that there are 4 Pagerank updates per year.
