long time reader, first time writer.

yesterday i sent out about 45 banner exchages to related north american companies. so far i've received 6-7 back. after spending a lot of time reading this forum, i took many of your suggestions and comments and applie dthem to my project. here are the things that i think made this exchage request mailout successful:

-short/direct letter
-3 different partnership opportunities
-important stats about our site

here's my question: i didn't send out our banner link, i decided that i'd rather have people contact me if they're interested...what do you think of this approach? do you think i would get even more responses if i had of send the link?

thanks.

I would not send out the link unless these mails are hand tailored. If so yes, you got nothing to lose. They can see what you have straight away.

If you include a banner link, you create one less step and therefore your conversion rate will improve.

Trust me, I have tested this :)

The problem sending the link of your site can result in spam reports for your url, email and isp. I have had them all, even my registrar, and do not send the url now until someone is interested.

True, I had a nice list of sites that I contacted, 1 complained (direct competitor). All you need is one complaint.
