I noticed something and i'm pretty excited about it. All the while I believed that Link Building isnt that true for improving your search listings.
Well, today after checking the web stats for 2 of my sites (been consistently monitoring the stats) I noticed for a couple of keywords/phrases, my site ranks in the top 5.
The best part. Since my client doesnt believe in SEO, I left it at that. now, with 0 incoming links, the sites managed to rank high.
Yes, I did optimize the sites. Content is king.
Now, would I be right in saying that Link Building is just a way to increase your visibility on the web as compared to resulting in high search rankings?
If we could concentrate more in content, site optimization, and put in, say about a 10% of SEO time towards link building?
Would my listing be affected by other sites that are just as optimized as my site but also have incoming links as well?
P.S: The other sites listed (the whole set of top 10 sites) have a PR of 5+ on G and have about a minimum of 100 odd incoming links to their site.
Any comments?
You might however find that someone can steam roll right over top of you with a few dozen well placed links. And that may be the easiest way for you to move from position five to position one.
My experience is the opposite. I did nothing but incoming links and got a site ranked for reasonably competitive keywords.
It's a question of degree. On page helps some, linking helps a lot.
I guess if you're asking if onpage is the way to go vs. linking, everything I've read here and the little I've tried says that linking is more important than onpage optimization.
