I have a <widget website>. What I have been doing is getting as many non reciprocal links as possible. The majority of my links are on "submit URL" directories.. What Im concerned is is this worth my time to do this as these directories are not just art directories but everything. There are three types of submittals
1. non reciprocal linking with related sites
2. Reciprocal linking with related sites
3. non reciprocal linking to directories

Again most of the sites I find that are non reciprocal are just directories.. I just dont want to waste my time if it is not helping. Any suggestions?

non-reciprocal links are always better so what if ther are from directories. No problem

Reciprocal link with relevant site is also benifical but not as much as non-reciprocal link.

All three options are good for your site.

You can also go for three-way links for your site. this is benificial for both the party. But ofcourse you need a third site to exchange links..

tricky though..

I say to mix between all of the above, its a bad idea to only concentrate on one type of link, reciprocal for example. What if Google were to devalue all reciprocal links tomorrow - you would be left in no mans land.

Cover top directories, a few on topic reciprocal links and then some on topic one way links (paying for them maybe the only option).

There are a few other notable link acquisition methods to throw in as well.
