I am trying very hard to get high pr on my site and have read that I need more inbound links.
Now, would that be links from another site pointing to mine?
I assume those links should beon a link page but I have to make sure that the link page can be accessed directly from their home page, coorrect?
Some folks believe that links on content pages (as opposed to just-links pages) might carry more weight, but it's hard to know for sure.
In my experience, links on content pages are preferable regardless of what the algo says, because they tend to send more real visitors.
I did a allinurl:name of my site and came up with only 36. How do I determine who those 36 are? I also want to know if any of those links are inside pages of my site.
Please help!
Thank you
link:www.domain.com on Google
link:www.domain.com on MSN
linkdomain:www.domain.com on Yahoo!
This gives you an idea of who is linking to you, and which search engines are showing that they know the sites which link to yours.
All 200 sites may not have linked back to your site or they may have removed their links. Also, some links go through a script so they may not be counted as backlinks.
I always keep my link requests in an Excel spreadsheet, so that I can track which page of a site I have requested a link from, the PR of that page, the date I asked for a link, the date their link was added and any comments.

So, I thought that having let's 200 links in total on my links pages, would mean that I would have 200 websites that are linking to mine.
I think you have things turned around in your mind. If you have their links on your page, that means you are linking to them.
For them to be linking to you, you need to persuade other sites to put your link on one of THEIR pages.
google says 92
msn says 993
yahoo says 1420
Now with google, there are listing there that are inside pages of my website . There are also regular listing of other websites that link to me. Is there something going on with google? I could have sworn that the number was higher the other day.
What is the difference between alinurl : domain name and the link:domain name
Thank you
I just did not make a spreadsheet but I see the reason to do so.
Can you tell me though there is such a fluctuation between google, mn and yahoo for me regarding the links?
The best way to gain links is to have such great content that other sites link to you without even being asked, but even if you have the world's best content you need a certain amount of traffic before that effect starts to kick in.
So ... submit your site to every relevant directory you can find, then start hunting for sites who might be willing to trade links. It's a lot of work, but the benefits are long-lasting.
