Worth paying $$ to a press release site

that has a PR of 8?

I came across a submit-your-own press release site that has a page rank of 8. They charge $495 for nationwide distribution.

There are many members here who feel that page rank is overrated, and others who think it's extremely important.

I'm just wondering if anyone thinks it's worth $495 to get a link from a PR8 site.

Thanks for any replies.

For how many days does that link last?

Content is king if you are into press work.

I've used PR Newswire for non-web stuff and had mixed results. It really depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to drive traffic, use www.prweb.com. The cost is much lower and it is better optimized for search engines like G or Y!. I also know if you use prweb, they submit it to G news... also, remember to use the appropriate keywords in your news release.

My two bits...

Does it come with a crawlable link?

dertyfern, you just answered my question for me. Some of the press releases contain links, but they're redirects. Example: [bigpressreleasesite.com...]

It looks like that would be a lot for a bot to crawl.

I checked the site out, old indexed articles have pr2/3 assigned. Waste of money :) There are many free services as well as $30 services that do the trick.

It's the PR of the page where your link will remain that counts, not the 24 hours it's on the home page (and we know that PR is worth less and less by the day).

I have submitted a release to several of these sites and have received newspaper coverage over the US for the stories (the release had nothing to do with pagerank but is related to my volunteer duties with a 501(c)(3).
