How do you start with a new client?

Here's the scenario - client wants SEO campaign - they know the costs, etc., but they don't have any links pages to use for recip arrangements.

If you add links pages to their site, it will take possibly months before they have PR...

So what do you do?

Does the rest of the site have good PR, content, etc? If the site at least offers valuable content, many sites offering links may still consider exchanging links. When talking to them, just explain that the link exchange program is new. It doesn't hurt to try.

If the site does not have PR, content, etc., then you may have to convince them to purchase text links from highly relevant sites. Also, don't forget to submit to directories/search engines that offer free submission. Exchange links with them if it will help build your link popularity.

Read my post on link building strategies. You need not have any backlinks or PR to get sites to link to yours. Pay-per-inclusion directories might be a good start. Be creative. Avi Wilensky.
