I have read allot of this section and have seen different answers to my questions,

  • Do I exchange links with all who want or only in my widget industry?
  • Does it matter which category I place these non related links in?
  • The sites that do not link back ,do they need to go?
  • Will adding content to these category pages help my effort?
  • If I only exchange with PR 2,3,4 sites is this as high as my PR will get?

Thanks

1) This is up for debate. I go for those in my industry and related industries. Whether themed links really matter yes is still arguable, but I would think if it doesn't already play at least some role, it definitely will in the future.

2) If you link to sites that are not on your topic, it really doesnt' matter where you put their links (as long as they aren't on your content pages that you want to rank well). You can throw them all in one general category if you want to.

3) Unless you find the sites a good resource for your visitors or you are just feeling generous, why not get rid of them?

4) nope...except maybe for your link parnters if you keep all your link pages themed.

5) No....you don't NEED a PR 5 link to become a PR5, it just helps. If you have lots of PR4, 3, 2, etc. you can still get to a PR5 or higher, it just takes many more of them.
