Best way to request a 3 way link arrangement?

I need more incoming links for a site that is in a fairly competitive area. I have another site that is peripherally related. I would like to link to sites from the related site (which has a higher PR incidentally) and them have them link to my target site.

I'm not sure how to go about this though. I have a page on my site that says I am interested in exchanging links - so I let them come to me, rather than me hunting people down. But I don't know if it is a good idea or not to say on that page that I want to do a 3 way exchange. 1)How many typical webmasters will even know what I am talking about? 2)If SE disapprove of 3 way linking I'm not so sure I want to say right on my site that that is what I want to do.

I'm thinking to just say something like 'contact me to see how to get your site listed here', and then when they do, explain how I want to do the linking.

How do other people approach it? Do you have problems with people understanding what you mean?

Look for ways to make it easy for people to do what you want. Don't worry about explaining; just make it easy.

Suggestion: offer a link from your Site A in exchange for them linking to their choice of your Site A or your Site B. Let them decide which one they prefer to link to, and leave it at that. Over time, you'll get a mixture of direct recips and three-ways without the burden of "selling" the three-ways. If results were entirely random the mix would be close to 50/50, but I expect the balance would lean a bit towards the three-ways because many webmasters are looking for that these days. That would suit your purposes just fine.

Offer some basic suggestions for your desired description or anchor text, but don't get too stuck on having people word your anchor text "just so". If someone prefers to tweak your wording to suit their own pages, the variety can help to make your web presence look less contrived.

I do this way:

Site A : The one the link partners point to.
Site B: The one from which I AM LINKING BACK.
Site C: The Linkpartner's website.

I prelinked the sites before asking [ Site B].
In my request letter I pointed out the pages where the links are active.
Tell Site Cs that I need visitors to Site A.

Offer them Linking Information.

It works good for me.
