Has anyone had any success with this?

Has anyone had any success giving away free articles as a means of gaining one way inbound links?

I had a look at some of the sites with hundreds of free articles people have submitted for distribution via websites and ezines. The author's website link is in the byline which looks like an easy-ish way to pick up a few one way links/extra visitors.

Is this successful or does having exactly the same article on several websites simply mean most are discounted ny the SE along with your byline link and any ranking boost it might have otherwise given?

I'm thinking of giving it a try but don't want to waste my time if it doesn't work.

If you're good at writing and find good sites to submit to, you can get link popularity as well as natural visitors. Most sites also know the bigger the better, so the articles usually remain in place, even if they're archived. I have some that have spent several years now on sites. Plus, there is usually a low outbound link count on the page.

If you aren't good at writing, you can often find starving college kids in need of a few bucks.
