Posting to Blogs to Get Links

Do I jump on the bandwagon to compete or just leave it alone

In certain industries I compete for rankings in, the backlinks that are showing up for sites that rank well continue to be from blogs.

I thought that links from blogs weren't counting anymore. But in certain industries, they are still working, even with PR4, PR5, and PR6 links being counted as backlinks.

I really hate to do it, but do I jump on the bandwagon and begin posting to thousands of on-topic blogs even though I know it's extremely risky?

Or should I just leave it alone? I want to keep my white seo hat on, but it seems that posting to blogs is the only way to compete?

Isn't there software out there that will post to thousands of blogs?

Leave it alone. It's potentially risky and it's also spam. Wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and feel good about yourself.

I wouldn't worry about blog spam and your competitors too much. Blog spam has received too much attention, partly due to the nigritude ultramarine contest, and it's only a matter of time till the SE's solve this problem. Also - for every site you see ranked well through blog spam, there are hundreds that got banned. A year ago, this idea was valuable to play with but today it's too risky and too much work with respect to what else you can do to rank well.
