Should I let copied site exist if it has good links to mine?

About six months ago I discovered a site that is pretty much a mirror of mine. It has different fonts, graphics, ads and some different links but the content is the same. It was so quickly copied and put up that there are quite a few links to my site (the original) on it. My site got 9208 uniques yesterday. It got 34 visitors from the copied site.

I'm letting it be because of the links to my site. The pages linking to my site are mostly PR3s. I'm ranking better than it is. I'm trusting the SE gods will, in time, do the right thing.

I wouldn't be fully confident with a duplicate of your site around. To start, if someone copied one of my sites word for word I would be a little ticked off. On the other hand, as you said if hits are coming in then it may not be a horrible thing. I guess it all depends on your topic and market.

As for duplicate content, I have seen some places where people have been dropped because of it, but actually only in rare cases. It is a toss up.

If you are selling something and the hits are converting into sales then I would say that is cool. If not, it may not be a good thing in the end.

I have heard of some cases where once the copied site got a significantly higher PR, the original page was banished to someplace deeper int he SERPs, no first hand experience though.

Ever read Greek Mythology? The gods on Mount Olympia were usually chuckling over a cup of uzo while the mortals chased shadows to their misfortune.

Allowing theft of your content is not a coherent strategy for link development.

OK, I'm making an effort to get rid of it.
