What's the fastest way to get incoming links?

In your experience, what is the fastest ways to get quality incomming links to website?

My site is about widget improvement and what I do is search on google phrases like:

“submit site” widgets
intitle:”submit site” widgets

This way I find some directories where I can submit my link, usually without returning link.

Can you recommend me faster ways?

Wiki's are introduing a valuable new structure of data to the Web (in my view they will replace directories).

For those that were not doing this anyway, it was only a matter of time - if anything I've only sped it up a bit ;-)

Find topics that are most relevant to your theme and submit valuable information and links.

They're backed up - submit junk and it will be deleted. Delete all and it will be replaced.

Treat them with respect and you will be rewarded with traffic.

Actually, I think the true professionals of agressive link development probably stay under the radar and do not make comments like this on a heavily trafficked public forum.

Comments like this are what got email spam legislated as illegal, and what will get automated form submissions automated as illegal eventually.

I mean I put the link in the right place. It fit perfectly. But they still removed it anyhow!

Wiki links are great....while they last. You'll spend more time checking they are still there than running your business.

It's not uncommon for someone to remove external links they feel are spam or unrelated (especially if it links to commercial content).

Check the page history (tab at top of page) to see who removed it and if they left a reason why.

Ok, now i am getting confused again.... early in the thread i read that wiki's are one of the best places to put back links.... but now the quote above... not much point if they don't stay around!

So, if i write a short article for a wiki, and link it back to my information page that is a more indepth version of the content written about.... it should stay right?

I mean really, hyperlinking to more info on same is sort of one a the main reasons the internet works isn't it, so why would someone delete the link.

I went to the Wiki site and looked at some articles. They had no PR at all. Zero.

You don't need to write an article. You can find an on-topic page and add your link there.

Trouble is anybody can remove it too :)

Writing an article just to get a link from a 0 PR page seems like a lot of effort.

TBPR is totally wonky now, pay no attention to the man behind the green pixels. You know I wonder if it was part of the plan all along get us hooked on green pixels, so we become dependant and keep waiting for our next fix (PR Updates). We turn into PR junkies who are more worried about getting green pixels than getting green dollars. I'd rather have one on topic PR1 link as oposed to one off topic PR4.

Added a few relevant links to various categories within Wikipedia and so far only one has been dropped. Discovering this link pop tip is like finding a chainsaw after hacking through the jungle with a blunt machete for 6 months.....Thanks.

I guess you cant get many of the wiki links if you have a small niche website, but a great idea for information site to get links...

I remember something like the wiki thing where you put information in and you get a link... does anyone else know what it is?

The one i saw was soemthing to do with canada in general...?

Have you tried putting a site search facility on your site? Hundreds of new pages are generated very quickly. If you can't host it on your own site, use Atomz or something similar. But I don't think those pages get indexed properly as backlinks, so try and host it yourself. I've seen lots of sites where most of their backlinks are just internal search results pages.

The "Wiki" thing was new to me but I was very disapointed after reading that wikis don't allow commercial stuff. And everybody here want's just that so we all are not welcome in wikies...
