What is a Link

When I search my site on Google, I'm given two choices:
- list all sites that links to my site.
- List all sites that contain the term "my domain name".

For links I get a count of: 268
But for "contain the term" I get a count of: 4,130

I browse thru the google list of "terms" and they look and act like links to me. So what's the difference?

Am I missing something?

from another "Link" thread [webmasterworld.com] Google would show only backlinks with PR4 or higher.

I don't think this is the answer.
The links are not level 4 an higher.
One only needs to click through Googles list to see this.
my website is listed in my profile. If you what to check this for yourself.

I also read thought the post on the link you gave and saw no answer their either.

Are we all guessing here?

Google has only ever shown a selection of links and now appears to show more of the lower PR value links.

The pages that just contain your domain name could be PPC links or redirected links or links that Google has chosen to ignore in the link: command. Just because links are not showing up in the link: command does not mean that they are not contributing to your PR value or anchor text.

Sem4u,
You addressed my biggest concern here. Thanks :)
New question:
Is there a way to find out what links ARE contributing to my PR value?

Questions specific to Google, and not about Link Development, belong in the Google News Forum.

Thanks. :)
