The contain: command will show ALL links and will search for instances of the URL that are not necessarily a link.
Regarding Increasing PageRank
*The only way to increase your page rank is to increase the number of links to your site from pages with a PR4 or better.
*Links do not need to be to your home page. Any page can incrase it's PR from incomming links and distrubute PR value throughout your web site.
*Internal links count too, so if you have more content pages (PR4 or better) and they all link back to the home back, you can boost the home page's PR value.
In fact I have experience the effects of a domino effect. When Google recently changed it so that only >PR4 would count, several of the sites that linked to me dropped form 4 to 3 (because several of their links no longer counted) and I in turn dropped from 5 to 4.
I know of a site such as the one you were mentioning. I am looking at a site with a PR3, with 57 internal links, no incoming links. I've read somewhere on WW that any page has some small PR value to start out with. This site funneled it all back to the home page to get a PR3. Great. I don't know of any homepages, aside from very new ones, that don't have at least a PR3 value.
I'm looking at another site with 250 links. ONE is from a >PR4 page. He also has a PR3. 200 links later and this one is STILL at a PR3. Similar site as the first example, BTW.
Another site has 73 links, 11 from >PR4 pages and this one has a PR4; sometimes a PR5. (On the edge?) Obviously the >PR4 links count for MUCH more.
Alright, alright, number of links on the page, dilution, recycling, off-page factors, whatever...
Go ahead and collect HUNDREDS of <PR4 links to boost your PR. I don't have that much of my life to waste. ;)
Anyway, yes, the logarithmic nature of PR means links with one more PR are worth quite a bit more. I'd be interested to know what the multiplier in the logorithm is. I presume it's not 10, ie., 4 is ten time higher than 3.
