Free for all links

I know they're bad, but...

Say I found a site in my sites category, and wanted to add a link to there links page, but they use a Free for all links script...

Should I steer clear, just because they use a Free for all links script, even though its a good site, and in my market?

How bad is it really to add your site to one of these?

about as bad as if I were to add your site to the page, in other words, if your competitor can do it to you then it can't be that bad.

So you think I should do it? Anyone else have any opinion on this?

roscoepico makes an excellent point. Another thing to consider is if all of the other websites who will be your neighbors are relevant. If they are, it might be a sign that someone is maintaining it. I'd say go for it.

If there is some sort of effort at maintaining the integrity of the links page, then it's not really a FFA, I guess.

Ohh I see, that clears it up! Thanks martinibuster!

Even if they use a free for all links script, as long as its not cluttered with all kinds of sites that don't even have to do with the site at hand, it's OK.

I thought maybe if the title bar read "Free for all links" even though they do make an effort to delete bad sites, that, THAT might be something Google looks for.

But it sounds like the deciding factor is, that they're shouldn't be like 10,000 links, and all unrelated industries, etc..

Man, I'm so glad I asked this question, thanks again!
