They are referred to as spam engines because they make it easy to send dozens, hundreds or even thousands of boilerplate emails.
And the engines like "Zeus" make it even worse because they include a spider to scan sites for "relevent" content and harvest email addresses.
Personally, I would avoid them all like the plague. Worthless.

It's a good balance between allowing you to manage your links campaign, and automating a good amount of the dogwork.
Don't be fooled, you still need a significant amount of time to run your campaign (I have trained someone to manage my linking campaign and am paying her an hourly rate that is much lower than mine (and it's going really well!)).
