Somebody just discussed this with me...
To find link partners.
Just go to few competitor sites, with a good PR. Copy the Link page of all the sites, he has linked to and upload on your link page and then open those sites to tell them that we have placed your link, and you are requested to link back to us. Send a reminder after some time and whosoever links you, just leave them and remove rest others...

------------
I can see only 1 problem here..But I would like to discuss this once i get some comments from experts..

Please advice..How do you rate this idea?

Regards

HI there,
I had a PR of 3 with 1 maybe 2 back links. What you are saying is exactly what i did. Just went to my competitors web sites and copied all there back links.
One month later i have 56 back links and a PR of 5 so its definately worth it.
What did you see as being a problem?

This is something that has been done for some time, and is very effective. You can also use Alexa and find similar competitors that are getting decent traffic and lift their link partners as well. There is nothing "black hat" about this. This would be similar to picking up the phone and contacting your competitor's suppliers to inquire about doing business with them. This is just business.

The automation of this process is actually one of the core functions of the link-building software I use. So you're right on track with that idea :-)

"links page" are not exactly the only kind of links. in fact i have found that most "links page" on any website have the lowest PR if any in the entire website. Make sure that people like your content and it is well recieved. links such as those in which say for example a blogger mentions your site / article to people on his site wouldbe more effective since it would also get more unique visitors, plus this page is bound to have a better PR. this is just one idea, loads of others...another would be if you can get your site featured on bbc or cnn / slashdot .. ;)

I think the only way i could get on the BBC or CNN web site would be in relation to being the news for being unlucky when hit by a tree/lightning whatever rather than my site content!

Hi,

Please excuse my ingorance but SEO is pretty new to me. Can someone please explain how to perform the following which was quoted above.

"You can also use Alexa and find similar competitors that are getting decent traffic..."

I have had a good look around the Alexa site but am still unsure of how to achieve this?

Thanks in advance

Jan

Im not 100% sure but at a guess, go into Alexa type in your desired subject - such as clothes (obviously you can choose an exact subject more close to home in and around you area or topic such as clothes scotland uk).
In the list that is given to you, you can identify how well that site is doing by mousing over the 'Site Info' button in a particular site, this will show an overall ranking.
Within this 'bubble' click on 'more site info', you can see how the site has performed in rankings over the past however many months/years.
To the left hand side in 'more about this site' you can click on 'sites linking in' which will display the sites linking to that one. These are sites linking to that one. You could maybe ask to request a link exchange with any of these.....

However looking at the links to my site in Alexa i had only 2, whereas using the Google toolbar i had 56. I recommend using the Google tool bar for finding competitors backward links, maybe others will disagree.

But what will you email the other party to tell them to link to you?

Not too sure if this is allowed - but does anyone know any good programs that can automatically email all the webmasters in my links page to ask for reciprocal linking (using this strategy of pasting all of my competitor links into my own page)

Feel free to PM me any programs you know off or just offer a search term to me :)

Thanks

Set up a links type page with the other companys name with a brief description and a link to their site.
Then go to their site, find their links page and follow any 'add url' info they have. Failing that go to the contact details, pick up the email address and write to them.
All you need to say is you have added them to your links page at .....htm or whatever, could they please add your details to their links page, then give your details, description and link you want.
Also write that you will take them off the page after 10 days or so if they dont add you (you dont want to be handing out free links for the hell of it, especially if your page has a high PR!)

The Software, i am thinking you have a list of email addresses?
I use software for sending out newsletters to people but i dont see why you could'nt send a bulk mail to everyone at once for this.
I use Atomic Bulk MailSender or something, theres a free trial that allows you to send 100 addresses at a time. Ideal, you store the addresses in a text file, one per line. You could have multiple text files with less than 100 to beat the system but its alot of hassle.
I hope this helps.
